How I Got Lost Before I Got Here

This picture was taken a couple of years ago. What I'm holding here is the check I got when I was laid off from a staff position in a multinational corporation due to internal structural changes. Don't be fooled by my smile here, it was overwhelming. It was the first time in my professional life that I saw myself without a steady job and boy was that scary! But I decided I was going to look at the bright side of things because, after all, I wasn't happy there.

It's a bit ironic how little we get to decide in our lifes. We make decision after decision based on what is expected of us as professionals, as a family member, as a partner. Sometimes, is just plain necessity that drives us, because bills have to be paid somehow. However, sometimes everything falls apart in our lives: your plans, your career path, your relationships, EVERYTHING. To me, this picture represents that period that lasted about 2 years, where everything went to s**t. I'm holding my failed plans in my hands, yet I'm smiling because I feel free.

When big changes like these happen to someone, you only have two choices: you either rebuild or redesign. Me being a designer, I chose the latter. I left my country, even though at that point I had already found another corporate job; I left my friends, even though I miss them every day; I left a big part of my family and I left what was expected of me. I left it all.

The project you are seeing on this page is the result of several months feeling lost, even depressed sometimes, not knowing what I was going to do with my life after i walked out of "the script". Until I stumbled upon a forgotten passion and here I am today! It is still a work in process, but it is mine. And I am happy.
