Yesterday, I realized that I spend a crazy amount of time answering questions on Instagram about pretty much the same subjects. Apparently, I had forgotten that I have an abandoned blog where I can write about all that! It's been 10 months since I last wrote, but I will give my blog some love now.
I will dedicate my first comeback post to my current project on Instagram: #100PatternsByJessieamo. It has been such an enriching experience and I've received many questions about it. I will attempt to answer a few of them in separate posts, so it doesn't become a super large, impossible to stay interested one.
Here goes the first!
How did I learn to do patterns?
I had been interested in patterns for a while. However, last year I tried my first two and were hmmm... not so good. Here are some snapshots of my first attempts—in case for some reason you thought I just woke up one day and knew how to make them!

Please notice how you can see the tile lines of the one on the right and how the colors vibrate with each other–which is a no no–on the one on the left. Not memorable and not good.
After I did this I realized that I REALLY had to train myself before I did any more patterns. I took, pretty much every-single-class I could find on Creativebug, Skillshare, even random tutorials. And proof that studying is just as important as practice, this was my first pattern for the project—which was actually the first time I started applying all the things I learned in the online classes.
I still needed more practice, but it was definitely an improvement from my previous attempts. So basically, to answer the question, I learned how to make patterns with online courses.
Will be back later this week to answer more questions. Have one?? Please let me know so I can include it in the series!
