It All Started with Love

This is a very important drawing for me, if not the most. Not only because it is the one that started all this, but because of the story behind it. My boyfriend and I were about to celebrate our anniversary and I started thinking about gifts. I started making a list of a few items but when I checked them I realized that, at some point, I had already given him something similar, and I didn't want that. We had been through so many changes together during that year and I wanted to create something special, something made by me.
I started thinking about the things he loves and this idea popped into my head: I should draw Bukowski for him. In many, many years all I did was doodle once in a while, so I didn't even know if I could still draw or if I was going to be able to do a portrait (had never done one before), but for some reason I wanted to try. I even asked a few friends if they thought it was a good idea and, obviously, they were all hesitant... I mean, it could end up looking like an alien or something.
So I started searching for the right photo and the right quote to get me inspired. I sat down, grabbed a pen with all the intention of showing my love to someone and a couple of hours later I had this drawing in my hands. I framed it and a few days later, when we interchanged gifts and I gave this to him, he didn't understand right away that it was something I had made. He suddenly exclaimed "YOU did this??", followed by "I didn't know you could draw!", and with blushed cheeks I replied "me neither...".
