To Please your Inner Child

That smiling kid who’s painting in the picture is me, circa 1994. The cute kiddo next to me is my little sister. When I was a child, instead of going to dance or sports classes like most of my friends, I went to painting classes. I was very little and only went for a couple of years but I remember it with love. That was the first time I used watercolor, gouache, pastels and charcoal. I have very fond memories throughout my childhood painting and creating things I'd seen in Art Attack! from Discovery Kids. I loved art. The smell of new Crayolas was my all-time favorite and, when in stores, I used to walk on the Crayola’s isle just to breathe a bit of it. I must admit I still do that.
Then life happens, you begin to forget all the things that made you happy and start getting practical. And don't get me wrong, getting practical is a must. What's not OK is to forget about everything else. At the beginning of this year, 21 years later, I was reading a book and there was a question in it: "if you could please your inner child doing whatever is going to make her happy, what would you do?” It took me less than a minute to answer this with something very simple, "well... I would draw." That weekend I went and bought a few materials. I still didn't know if or how I was going to use them, but I knew I had to. And that, my friends, is exactly what I needed.
What about you? What used to make you happy before "life happened"? If you could please YOUR inner child, what would you do?
