In the process of exploring materials and techniques I've been working on a few different subjects. After I finished 2 or 3 of each I realized that there were trends behind them. This happened organically, it wasn't really planned. One of the series, and the one I want to write about today, is "The Ladies".
There's something about the expression of a woman's face in portrait photography that I find intriguing. Is like each and every one of them is telling me a story, or at least that's how I perceive it. I've been searching for women's portraits to get that inspiration and what I see is diversity, beauty, emotion, sensitivity, strength. I then realized that what was inspiring me was the desire to capture some of that. Because we are all beautiful, unique and wonderful.
The Ethnic Lady, with her bracelets and her dreads covered with beautifully patterned fabrics; The Edgy Lady, with colorful hairstyles and trendy glasses; The Curly-haired Lady, who is proud of her curls and wears them with style; The Hidden Lady, who I also call the innocent, the one who is looking behind the curtains with dreams and deep feelings, not yet ready to face the world.
This series is not about stereotypes, not at all. It is about celebrating women and diversity, with different styles and ethnicities. These are my interpretations of those pictures I find here and there and how they make me feel. Can't wait to see what I find next!
